About 3,548 medical personnel were handed over appointment letters, under the National Rural Health Mission, at a function by Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi.
"The government was committed to improve the health scenario in the rural areas and the appointment of the health personnel was a step in this direction," Gogoi said.
He said the Centre has already sanctioned Rs 100 crore for improvement of the rural health sector.
Besides doctors, the government also gave appointment letters to GNM and ANM nurses, pharmacists, laboratory assistants and accountants.
Assam Health Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said the decision to give appointment letters was not only a move to solve the unemployment problem but also ensure improvement in the health sector.
