Srinagar/Leh, August 08 (Scoop News) – Rich tributes were paid to the Jammu and Kashmir Police personnel, who achieved martyrdom while rescuing the people in the recent incident of cloudburst in Leh and its nearby villages.
The police personnel are Sub-Inspector Mohammad Ali, Head Constables Abu-Hussain, Nissar Ahmed and Constable Mohammad Hussain, all from Kargil district, who lost their lives during the rescue operation. They have created niche in the annals of Jammu and Kashmir Police history by sacrificing their lives while rescuing hundreds of trapped civilians.
Special arrangements to airlift their bodies from Leh to Srinagar were made today personally by the Director General of Police, Kuldeep Khoda. The bodies were received at PCR here by the Minister for Consumer Affairs, Public Distribution and Transport, Qamar Ali Akhoon, Inspector General of Police (Kashmir Zone), Farooq Ahmed and other senior police officers. On the occasion the contingents of J & K Armed jawans presented Shaukh Shaster and reversal of arms.
Later, the bodies were sent to their native places (Kargil) by the Minister of Consumer Affairs, Qamar Ali Akhoon and Inspector General of Police, Farooq Ahmed.
Among others, present on the occasion were Deputy Inspectors General of Police, Rauf-ul-Hassan and J. P. Singh, Commandant, IRP 4th Bn. Zakir Hussain, SSP PCR, Javaid Farooqi, SP. APCR, Altaf Ahmad , senior police officers and jawns.
In order to help, mitigate the sufferings of the victims of could burst and flash flood in Leh, J&K Police has stretched its resources and its personnel are working round the clock at Leh in that direction. DGP J&K Police, Shri Kuldeep Khoda, sanctioned an amount of Rupees 7.00 lakh so as to provide free accommodation, Langer and free medical services in the town. Senior Police Officers of the rank of IGP Shri Dilbagh Singh, assisted by DIG Shri Phunsog, have been deputed to supervise such relief measures at Leh. They are presently monitoring such activities over there. Attempt is also being made to send men and material from district Kargil to assist District Police Leh in this onerous task.
