4 killed, 28 injured in Mehandhar, peaceful protest in Mahore

JAMMU, Sep 15: Protesting desecration of holy Quran in America, telecasted by an Iranian Press TV claimed four lives in Mendhar, two hundred kilometers from here today. About 28 people were injured in clashes also out of them 8 are reported critical. Protestors were heading towards a Christian missionary, raising slogans against Pastor Terry Jones and USA. Smelling rot, police tried to stop protestors near Dak Bunglow, but protestors forcefully tried to break police cordon, resulting scuffle followed by stone pelting. To contol the mob police opened, resulting in killing of three on spot and later two more people succumbed to injuries, sources informed.
Those who died include Alam Din Shah (24) of Gold village, Shamim Ahmed (20) of Khaneti Banola, Aftab Khan of Balakot and Arshad Ahmed (22). Sources in local hospital informed that all the persons brought to hospitals were carrying bullet injuries on various parts of their bodies. They also said that seriously injured were shifted Government Medical College, Jammu. Protestors set ablaze Sub Divisional Police office (SDPO), PDD, Tehsil offices and damaged gypsy SHO of local area. Informed sources also resorted that hand of sympathizers of valley based separatists cashed the opportunity for their vested interest and instigated them to attack the government and civil property.
After Mendhar episode, people in Rajouri took out a protest and raised slogans against Poonch administration, which failed to control the situation according to them. Protestors demanded action against SDPO Mendhar, besides demanded filing of FIR against him and his team. Local MLA, Rafiq Khan while condemning the killing of four people has demanded exgratia of Rs 10 lac for those killed and Rs 5 lac to every injured. He also demanded that through probe should be done in the matter.
Meanwhile, peaceful protest was marched by the people at Mahore in Udhampur district against the desecration of holy book. Hundreds of people gathered in market and raised slogans against American Pastor and America. PDF State Secretary, Mohd. Ayub Aiyan a protestor condemned the act of discretion of holy book by Americans.
