A suicide bomber struck Shia pilgrims on Sunday as they were taking a break during the days-long walk to Karbala to mark Arbaeen, killing at least 40 people and injuring 60. The attack in Iskandariyah was the second of the day against the pilgrims travelling to mark the end of 40 days of mourning following the anniversary of the martyrdom of Imam Husain. The suicide bomber detonated his explosives belt at a tent where pilgrims can stop and get something to eat and drink in the Hiteen area on the southern outskirts of Iskandariyah, police said. At least 40 people were killed and 60 injured, according to the US military and local authorities.
