Israel has rejected the 48-hour proposal put forward by France and instead pushed ahead with heightened assault on Hamas targets. No reason was given for the rejection by the Israel leaders of the ceasefire proposal.
The good news that has circulated earlier to media covering the event was considered a welcome development for all residents of Gaza and nearby Israel boarders that are within the areas affected by the continued air an mortar assaults from both sides.
The announcement of the proposal’s rejection by Israel leaders is certainly not a welcome development for all peace loving people in the areas affected by the current fighting.
As the fighting enters day 5 of continued attacks from both sides, there is no serious proposal except the one that was brought up by France, to bring the warring parties to the negotiating table.
Yahoo reports: Calls for immediate ceasefire have come from the European Union, urge truce Tuesday, and from the Quartet of World Power trying to promote mid east peace- The United States, United Nations, The European Union and Russia. President Bush and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice also called leaders in the Middle East to press for durable solution.
In the meantime, Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas is set to meet with Turkey prime minister and Jordanian King Abdullah ll for possible mediation efforts.
So far only France president Nicolas Sarcozy has shown real interest and efforts in trying to find immediate solution to the conflict as he plans to visit Israel for consultation with Israel officials in the next few days.
In the meantime, people are suffering in the troubled areas as fighting continues.
