Five staff of the Nigerian Cargo Handling Company Plc, Olalekan Ajao, Augustine Ojemeh, Olumide Taiwo, Gbenga Adeladan and Sunday Agbotosho have been arrested by the police for stealing drugs, valued at N4,918,458, belonging to Glaxosmith Kline Nigeria Plc.
The five men were arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrate’s Court on a three-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
Police prosecutor, Mr. Benedict Unawunwa, told the court that on 27 December, 2006, at the Nigerian Cargo Handling Company Plc., Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Ikeja, the five accused conspired and stole 7,374 packs of Halfain tablets, valued at N4,918,458, belonging to Glaxosmith Kline Nigeria Plc.
When the charges were read to them, they pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The judge, Magistrate Aje Afunwa, however, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N200,000 each with two sureties in like sum.
The judge also ruled that the sureties must present means of livelihood and home address which must be verified by the court.
Further hearing in the case has been adjourned till 4 February, 2008.
