Srinagar/Jammu,September 02 (Vijay Kumar) – Indian Army on Wednesday killed five heavily-armed infiltraters in Infiltration bid in Gurez sector of North Kashmir.
A defence spokesman said a group of militants were seen sneaking into this side in the wee hours. As soon as they entered into the Indian side, troops guarding the borders confronted them and asked them to surrender but they opened fire. Five militants were killed in the ensuing encounter, the spokesman said.
Defence sources said that operation is still on in Gurez sector to eliminate any more militants who may have sneaked into this side of Line of Control.
The police authorities said that once again Pakistani agencies had become active in assisting small groups of militants in sneaking into Jammu and Kashmir. They said during the last one fortnight several infiltration bids had been foiled by the troops, guarding the border, and in these incidents more than 15 militants, including 10 infiltrators, had been killed. They said between April and June end there was hardly any major infiltration bid made by the militants.
According to the intelligence reports, Pakistani agencies wanted to keep the infiltration exercise on so that Delhi was under pressure for resuming talks with Islamabad. Police said that instructions have been given to the security forces, including the troops, to relaunch operations against rebels wherever they have established their hideouts. The security forces have also been directed to start anti-militancy operations only after specific reports or information about the rebel hideouts was received. This was being done to eliminate any chance for causing inconvenience and harassment to people.
Meanwhile the entire security apparatus in Jammu and Kashmir has been put on high alert following fresh infiltration bid by a group of heavily armed militants in Gurez sector of Kashmir today.
