5 Reasons to Visit the Crime Museum this Summer

According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, Americans do a lot of traveling in the summer. In fact, they report that over 657 million long distance summer trips are made in a year, with the average being around 284 miles one-way. Those looking for something fun and off the beaten path this summer may want to consider going to Washington DC and making a stop off at the Crime Museum.

“Whether you are having a staycation this year or are in the area from hours away, you want to add the Crime Museum to your list of places to visit,” states Janine Vaccarello, chief operating officer of the Crime Museum.  “We provide a unique experience that combines history, science, and sociology, providing for a fun and educational time for the whole family.”

Although the focus may be crime, don’t think it’s not something for the kids, too. There are many good reasons the Crime Museum makes for a great family friendly stop, including these top five.

1.    History. At the Crime Museum kids and parents alike will get an interesting history lesson, as they have fun and are entertained. They will learn about some of the more famous crimes, such as Ted Bundy, wildlife trafficking, John Dillinger, and more. While many people shun history, they can’t help but to find it interesting at the Crime Museum.

2.    Brain Drain. Many teachers will attest to the fact that children lose some of what they have learned over the summer. Parents can help their kids avoid summer brain drain by keeping them learning, exploring, and trying new things.

3.    Unique Experiences. The Crime Museum provides a unique experience. It’s not everyday that people can have the opportunity to get hands-on experience in a CSI lab, or learn about the illegal wildlife trafficking issue. Those who visit the museum are usually exposed to new topics and experiences.

4.    Group Discounts. The museum offers group discounts. This makes for a great opportunity for summer camps, youth groups, senior activity groups, and large families to get together and save on their admission price.

5.    Summer Camps. The museum offers numerous week-long summer camps all summer long. Attendees do not need to be area residents. Therefore, families visiting the area can put their child in the Crime Museum CSI camp for a week and have hours each day to explore the area doing adult things, while their child is learning and being entertained in the camp.

“Summer is a great time for families to come into the museum and take advantage of everything we have to offer,” added Vaccarello. “No matter where you are from, you will find the museum of interest. We have something for everyone.”

The Crime Museum is currently featuring a new temporary exhibit on Wildlife Trafficking that will be there through February 2016, giving people an opportunity to see if they are contributing to the problem, and how they can help. The Crime Museum also offers a variety of other temporary and traveling exhibits, summer camp programs, walking tours, educational hands-on exhibits, and more.
