While you appreciate the benefits of regular exercise, you also appreciate that however much you love the outdoors, there are those seasons and times when you can never venture outdoors. When the only option you have is indoor exercise, are there ways to make this fun or do you dread the very sight of your treadmill?

Thankfully, indoor exercise is not synonymous with boredom and with a little planning and creativity you can make indoor exercising real fun.

1. Use music

The ability of music to lift up spirits is well known and when exercising indoors music can help you in two ways to make exercising fun. Dancing is one great way of exercising which also a lot of fun. When dancing, you are not only enjoying yourself but also exercising your body.

The kind of music you choose is crucial here. Go for danceable and energetic tunes. You can create your own playlist or download one. By listening and dancing to music you not only exercise your body in a fun way but also enjoy the therapeutic effects that music has on the heart.

2. Work out with a partner

If time alone on the treadmill turns out to be time for sad memories and probably loneliness, it might be time you considered carrying out indoor exercise with a partner whose company you enjoy. This does not necessarily have to be your spouse.

Working out (and probably chatting along) with another person removes the tediousness out of exercising so that you no longer feel that you are carrying out an arduous task but actually having fun.

3. Consider the conveniences of working out at home

While you might dread working out indoors in your own home, perhaps you should consider the conveniences that working out here come with. When at home, you save the gas costs that you inevitably would have to incur if you had to drive to the gym (not forgetting the inconveniences of traffic jams), the never-ending distractions at the gym and most importantly the low hygiene standards you have to operate in at some gyms. You can also setup a home gym for yourself and workout without spending much on extra fees outside. Unbeknown to many people, public gyms expose you to many illness-causing germs.

4. Turn dreaded chores into exercises

You might dread carrying out some chores at home and could even be paying someone else to do them but did you know that some of these chores provide an excellent opportunity for exercising. Rather than focus on how tiring the chores are, try considering the amount of calories that carrying out a particular exercise helps you burn. Indoor chores like vacuuming could help you burn plenty of calories and by doing them you will killing two birds with one stone.

5. Go for short workouts

If you find indoor workouts arduous, chances are that you work out for far too long than your body is capable of. Working out does have to be same as sitting an exam – you should allow yourself some flexibility. For you workouts to be fun and effective, make them short but intense.
