April is considered Women’s Eye Health and Safety Month, making it an ideal time to take stock in the issue. According to research, women tend to have more eye problems than men do in the U.S. because they usually live longer. Additionally, there are some hormonal or immunological diseases that are more prevalent in women, which can lead to eye problems. The good news, however, is that there are things that women can do to help prevent and address eye health issues.
“Yes, there may be factors that are contributing to more women getting diseases such as glaucoma and macular degeneration. But there are things we can do,” explains Dr. Edward Kondrot, founder of the Healing The Eye & Wellness Center and the clinical director of Integrative Medicine of the American Medical College of Homeopathy. “It is important that women take eye health seriously and do everything they can to protect it.”
Here are 5 things that every woman should be doing to help protect their eye health:
- Check bone density. If there is a weakening of the bones it will release lead into the body, which can lead to cataracts. Be sure to also include weekly weight bearing exercises in your routine to continue having strong bones.
- Balance your hormones. Having deficiencies can lead to eye health problems, including dry eyes. You can help balance your hormones by maintaining a healthy diet, avoiding processed foods, and cutting back on the sugar.
- Eat green. Load up on green vegetables, which can help prevent dry eyes. They are also loaded with antioxidants to help keep you healthy.
- Avoid artificial. Certain foods, such as high fructose corn syrup and aspartame, should always be avoided. Both of these can be toxic to the optic nerve.
- Exercise regularly. This will help improve overall vascular health and blood flow to the optic nerve, and help lower the eye pressure.
“It’s never too early or too late to start taking preventative measures to protect your eye health,” adds Dr. Kondrot. “And if there is a problem already it is important to meet with a homeopathic doctor to find the right treatment. Meeting with a homeopathic doctor will have you on the right path to seeing clearly once again.”
For those who have eye health issues, there are many natural routes to treatment, helping people to avoid surgeries and toxic medications. These include such therapies as intranasal light therapy, chelation therapy, ocular coherence tomography, and microcurrent therapy, among others.
Dr. Kondrot is the author of three best-selling books, including “10 Essentials to Save Your Sight” (Advantage Media Group, July 2012), and president of the Arizona Homeopathic and Integrative Medical Association. He has founded the Healing The Eye & Wellness Center, located just north of Tampa, Fla., which offers alternative and homeopathic routes to vision therapies known as the “Kondrot Program.” The program focuses on such conditions as macular degeneration, glaucoma, dry eye, cataracts, and others. His advanced programs have helped people from around the world restore their vision. The center sits on 50 acres of land and features a 14,000-square-foot state-of-the-art complex, an organic ranch, jogging trails, swimming pool, hot tub, and more.
