The Number of Mobile subscribers in India has been increasing by leaps and bounds. The major mobile service operators like BSNL, Airtel, Aircell, Vodafone, Reliance, Tata Indicom and Idea etc are vying with each other to increase the number of their customers, retain their existing customers by offering varieties of concessions and facilities to widen their network. It is an interesting and a fascinating feature, which the mobile operators are spreading the tentacles of their net work even to the remotest rural areas, where hitherto the peoples have so far even not heard of communication facilities. In short it augurs well for both the urban and rural folk of India and in the larger interests of the welfare of India.
It is estimated that at the present rate of increase in the number of mobile subscribers in India, it would touch 500 million by 2010, according to the Vice-President of Nokia India, Mr.Sivakumar. Considering the scope for immense advertisement possibilities through mobile phones, in the next three years, the increase in mobile users in India would be greater than the total increase in the ten years.
Of the prospective consumers or subscribers of mobile phone users,60 million will have video capability and 250 million will have handsets with internet access. The increase in the number of mobile subscribers would open up a big opportunity for the advertisers in India. We are all aware that at present each mobile franchise holder is thoroughly using their respective subscribers, to advertise their various offers and facilities made available and extended to them.
