Jammu, July 24 (Scoop News)-Senior National Conference leaders on Wednesday questioned the rationale behind the wild allegations leveled by Congress MLA Ghulam Mohammed Saroori on the issue of relief package for the quake suffers of Doda and Kishtwar, saying this speaks of ignorance and naivety of a person who has himself remained a minister.
“How can Mr Saroori accuse National Conference of misguiding the Centre over the package when the State Cabinet under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister recommended a comprehensive package to the Centre”, the leaders said, adding that Omar Abdullah took up the matter personally with Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh in New Delhi and during his visit to Srinagar. The issue was also discussed by the top ranking State officials with a central team that visited the area to have on the spot assessment of damages caused by the tremors, so where the question of misleading the Centre arise when the Central team headed by a Joint Secretary has toured the entire area.
The signatories to the statement include MLC and District President Doda, Khalid Najeeb Suhrawardy, ex-legislators, Brij Mohan Sharma, Qazi Jalal-ud-Din, Chaman Lal Bhagat, Mohd Iqbal Bhat, District President Kishtwar Tanveer Ahmad Kitchloo, Sajjad Shaheen and Dr. Reyaz Bhaderwahi.
Before going public on this issue, the National Conference leaders wished Mr Saroori to have sought an advice from three ministers of the twin districts, two of them belonging to Congress, who are a part of the government. They said the package was formulated on the basis of the assessments and surveys conducted by various agencies of the government on the ground Zero. The NC leaders also acknowledged the support of Union Health Minister Mr Ghulam Nabi Azad and Union Minister for Renewable Energy Dr Farooq Abdullah, who pushed the issue at the appropriate level in the Centre and said that we are still hopeful that the Centre will realize the gravity of the situation and come to the aid of the affected people of the Chenab Valley.
The National Conference leaders said that Mr Saroori is used of making faux pas from time to time and referred to his unwarranted and misleading statements to the public on assumed belief of relief money having been released to the state government by the Centre. “Eventually, he had to taste a humble pie when the truth dawned on him”, the leaders said, adding that by his irresponsible utterances Mr Saroori was causing ample avoidable embarrassment for his party’s senior leader Mr Ghulam Nabi Azad as well.
The National Conference leaders also took pity on the wisdom of Mr Saroori for taking the affected people for a ride by under-estimating their sagacity. “The people know about the facts even if Mr Saroori tends to remain ignorant and behave like an ostrich”, they maintained.
National Conference leaders advised Mr Saroori against shedding crocodile tears and said that National Conference …………
