The death of an 18-month old child is being investigated by the Massachusetts police. The child was being treated with a home remedy, a mixture of mayonnaise and a plastic bag, for head lice.
Officers responded to a city home for reports of a child not breathing, a Springfield police department spokesman said.
Sgt. John Delaney said the little girl’s scalp was covered in mayonnaise and a plastic shopping bag was then placed over her head. This is a common home remedy for children who have head lice. The child was left unattended and seemingly fell asleep and the bag slipped down over her face to suffocate her to death.
The state Department of Children and Families is investigating and the matter is still under investigation; and no charges have been filed.
I’m passing this along for the purpose of parents to read because I’m aware that lice are prevalent in school age children and they pass it down to their younger siblings.
This is an education for me because I would have never thought a freak accident like this could happen to a child.
Parents must remember plastic bags are a hazard.
