Poetry from the Corner of Barbara Kasey Smith’s World

A Forbidden Secret
Twisted and imperfect
an innocent child’s manipulated
steered by an abuser
professes to be a virtuous friend…
A devil in disguise
adulates importance and power
pushes it to the limits
increased ego while drilling.

A young mind wrought by evil
misled about friendships and relatives.
Confusion and pain
misguided love and affinity
left with a bruised and mixed mind
fear of telling, afraid to say “no.”
My innocence lost to a nightmare
year’s pass and the hurt stings.

Lost in a ravaged realm of shame
gnaws at the brain incessant
never frees the soul for peace
a spirit writhes with imbedded hate
prays for freedom from disgrace
pleads for a release from the noose
holds a hostage that’s ineffable
living with a forbidden secret.
