59th National School Games, cricket U-14 concludes

Srinagar, October 06(Scoop News)- The 59th National School Games Cricket Under-14 years Boys held at Srinagar from Ist to 6th October 2013 concluded at Sher-i-Kashmir Cricket Stadium today.

Delhi got first place by scoring 115 runs in 24 overs for the loss of three wickets and by winning the match by seven wickets, whileas Uttar Pradesh stood second by scoring 109 runs for 9 wickets. Navodaya Vidhyalaya Samiti stood third. Karish Gaur of Delhi who scored 46 runs was declared Man of the Match, Arsalan Ansari of CBSE the Best Batsman and Saif Ahmed of Delhi was adjudged Best Bowler.
Minister of State for Youth Services and Sports, Science and Technology, Feroze Ahmed Khan was the Chief Guest on the occasion, while as Director General Police, Ashok Prasad, Secretary Youth Service and Sports, Parviz Malik, Director General Youth Service and Sports, Navin Aggarwal, Joint Director, Youth Services and Sports, Madan Lal attended the function.
Addressing the glittering sports event, the Minister lauded the role of organisers for showing immense dedication and zeal in popularizing sports among young generation, besides for making youth disciplined and cultured by way of participating in sports activities. However, he said that there is always room for improvement and it is need of hour to give fillip to sports sector by introducing latest and modern trends, so that our youth is able to face the challenges and competitions on global level.
Appreciating the Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah for boosting the morale of youth to take part in sports, Feroz said, in addition to academics development, State Government is strongly focusing on building mental and physical health of youngsters by providing them all possible facilities for participating in sports activities.
The Minister hoped that the Youth Service and Sports Department will continue its efforts to organise more and more such events in future to popularise sports in every corner of the State.
Earlier, Director General Sports, Navin Aggarwal in his welcome address said that the guys played with a great enthusiasm as if an international event of sports was being played. He said that level of performance of 40 matches was high during six days of the event and good atmosphere prevailed with descent sports spirit. He said thousands of youth participated in the event, held at district level in previous months.
Aggarwal announced that India- under -14 best performers have been selected to participate in international events, saying that youth have to participate in constructive engagement.
