Jammu, October 16 (Scoop News) -Wrestler Rehmat Ali from Doda district of Jammu division defeated Pakistani Wrestler Yusuf in the final bout during a wrestling Championship at Mathwar area of Akhnoor tehsil in Jammu.
Minister for Health Sham Lal Sharma was the chief guest on the occasion.
The first of its kind in the area, the championship was organized by Mathwar Management Committee.
The Doda wrestler Rehmat Ali won the fight in just 15 Minutes .
The cash award for the winner of the final bout was Rs 31000 along with a silver Gurj and Patta, while the cash award for the runners up was Rs 20,000. The award was given away to the wrestlers by Chairman of Mathwar Management Committee, Baba Yashpal Sharma.
In all 25 bouts were held among the wrestlers from Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi and 6 wrestlers from neighbouring country Pakistan during the championship.
Of the total 25 competitions, Pakistani wrestlers won only one fight.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister hailed the organizers for holding such a high level championship in the area. He said participation of wrestlers from across India and Pakistan made it an important event. He said such spots involving the players from Pakistan and parts of India will greatly help in developing friendly relations between the two neighboring countries and also pave way for cultural exchange.
