Srinagar, January 26 (Scoop News) – 63rd Republic Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervor at Srinagar today where Minister for Finance and Ladakh Affairs, Abdul Rahim Rather unfurled the national flag and took salute at march past at Bakshi stadium.
The contingents of BSF, CRPF, ITBP, JKAP, JKP, IRP, Auxiliary Police, Fire Service, Forest Protection Force, Pipe Band and NCC cadets participated in the march past.
Congratulating the people of the State, the Minister said that it is time to introspect, assess and make resolutions for accelerating the developmental process. He said that we need to introspect and overcome our weaknesses for the development of our state.
Rather said that peace is very imperative for any kind of development and congratulated the people for maintaining peace which created a conducive environment for promoting tourism and other economic activities He said that this year, 12 lakh tourists visited the valley and one crore pilgrims paid obeisance at Mata Vishnu Devi due to peace in the State, which brought cheer on the faces of those people who are directly or indirectly linked with tourism sector.
He said that we should salute our armed forces and police who guard our borders and ensure internal security He also reminded the people for sharing their responsibilities towards nation building. He said the Republic Day celebrations also remind us of the great leaders of our Nation, who gave us the constitution and right to equality to the people .He said we have the largest democracy in the world and we should be proud of it.
Rather said citizens should be aware of their rights and duties for a strong democracy and it is important that peace and secular fabric of our democracy is strengthened. He said that where the Government has its responsibilities to remove the hardships of the people, the opposition has also to play a positive and constructive role for a healthy democracy. He said that our State like other States of the country has registered tremendous progress in various sectors, like Agriculture, Tourism, Horticulture, and Power etc. He said no doubt there are many un-resolved issues, which can be solved through discussion and dialogue.
The Minister also stressed on imparting moral education to the youth so that they become responsible citizens and curbs the social evils.
The Minister said that corruption is a menace that can be fought with active participation of the people adding that the newly legislated Public Services Guarantee Act is an important step towards ensuring good and people centric governance where public servants have been made more accountable and answerable. He said that this Act will ensure timely and effective redressal of the various issues of common people.
Rather said that the media has a vital role to shape public opinions and they should play it to the hilt.
On the occasion, the Minister announced Rs. 2 lakh for purchasing the track Suits for all the students who participated in Republic Day celebration.

Sagar congratulated people for maintaining peace during last summer adding that peace is the pre-requisite for development. He said during last year Government succeeded in holding Panchayat election after almost three decades and delegated democratic powers to these basic democratic Institutions.

BUDGAM: The Republic Day was also celebrated with enthusiasm and gaiety in Budgam district at Sports Stadium. The Minister for Agriculture Ghulam Hassan Mir unfurled the National flag and took salute at the March past.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister urged upon the youth to come forward and co-operative with the Government in taking the State to the new heights of development and prosperity. He said during the last two decades of turbulence the State has suffered immensely in every sector and need of the hour is to work with dedication to bring it at par with other States of the Country.

PULWAMA: The Republic Day was celebrated in Pulwama district and main function was held at District Police Line, the Minister for Social Welfare, Ms. Sakina Itoo unfurled the national flag and took salute.
Addressing the gathering, the Minister said that our leaders and elders have made immense sacrifices to let every citizen of this country to enjoy freedom of life and expression.
He said that Sher-i-Kashmir, Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah envisioned ‘Naya Kashmir’ and introduced various land reforms for the same.

BARAMULLA: At Baramulla, the Republic Day was celebrated in District Police Lines, Baramulla, the Minister for Education, Peerzada Mohammad Syed who was chief guest unfurled national flag and took salute at the March past.
Addressing the gathering, Peerzada said that vested interests are trying to vitiate the peaceful atmosphere in the State, which can be countered with the co-operation of people. He said that coalition government has strengthened democracy in the State by conducting Panchayat elections and empowering the basic democratic institutions in the State after three long decades.
SHOPIAN: At Shopian, Minister for Sheep Husbandry and Science and Technology, Aga Syed Ruhalla Mehdi unfurled the National Flag and took salute at the March past.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that various measures have been taken for the development of the State during the last 3 years. He said the major achievement of the Government has been the Public Services Guarantee Act under which the officials have been made accountable.
Aga Syed said that during current financial year 70 percent of Plan allocation has been spent which shows pace of development in the district.
BANDIPORA: At Bandipora also, Republic Day was celebrated with patriotic zeal at Boys Higher Secondary School Bandipora, the Minister for Consumer Affairs & Public Distribution System and Transport, Qamar Ali Akhoon who was chief guest on the occasion hoisted the national flag and took salute at the March past.
The Minister in his address said that the present coalition government has made Public Services Guarantee Act and Right to Information a reality and has strengthened the basic democratic institutions in the State by successfully conducting Panchayat elections and fully empowering them.
Akhoon urged for better coordination among Sarpanchs, civil society and administration to usher the State in an era of progress and prosperity.
Similar function was also held at Sumbal where Tehsildar Sumbal hoisted the national flag and took salute at the March past.
ANANTNAG: After hoisting tricolor at Degree College Anantnag, the Minister of State for Hajj, Auqaf and Fishers (Independent Charge), Aijaz Ahmad Khan said that under the Constitution of India, every section of the society, irrespective of cast, creed and colour have been given equal rights.
The Minister said that Rs. 32 crore have been spent under MG NREGA, generating 64500 mandays of work in the district, while Rs. 45 crore is being spent on the execution of water supply schemes.
Aijaz said that in order to improve the power sector, Rs. 7 crores are being spent on the execution of Receiving Station and supply/repair of transformer.
KULGAM: Republic Day was celebrate with enthusiasm and gaiety in Kulgam district, the Minister for Forests and Environment, Mian Altaf Ahmad unfurled the National Flag and took salute at March past.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that this day is celebrated for the freedom we have been granted to live a dignified life without any discrimination of caste, creed and colour by the Constitution.
