While seven children were killed by the hand grenade, seven others were injured. Two of those seven children had sustained severe injuries. According to police, the explosion took place at a school in Bondoukou. Apparently, a child removed the pin from one of the two grenades they found nearby.
According to health worker Clement Assi in an interview with Reuters, two boys had picked up grenades near the school. One of them had pulled the pin from the grenade he was holding the health worker explains.
“The age of the children killed is between around four and 15 years. Among the injured, two were seriously hurt and five only slightly,” according to Clement Assi.
In December, both the government soldiers and rebels began a disarmament process.
