If you’ve ever entertained guests in your home, you know how much you have to think about. You have meals to prepare, cleaning to do, drinks to get ready, and conversations to think about. This is all in hopes that your guests who are staying for a night or two are going to feel like they are staying in their own homes. You wouldn’t want these guests to feel like they’re staying at a hotel, would you? No, you want to make sure that they feel at home throughout their stay.
However, that can be pretty hard to do! With so much to do, how can you make sure that they actually feel at home? Keep reading down below, where we’ve collected some of the top ways you can do just that.
- Always Be Attentive to Your Guests.
The first thing you need to know about having guests over and making sure that they feel at home is making sure your whole attention is on them. During the time, you have guests over, they should be your main concern. Pretty much everything is less important than the guests you are entertaining and spending time with.
That means you have to make sure that they have everything possible that they could need and that they are comfortable. Make sure to think about everything that would make guest feel comfortable in a strange home and make that happen for your guests!
- Have A Nice Meal in The Evening.
A great way to kick off a couple of nights with your guests is to have a nice meal in the evening. A full-fledge dinner is going to automatically put your guests at ease and make them feel at home. Make sure to ask about any dietary restrictions or preferences that your guests have. Nothing would be worse than them coming in for dinner and only realizing then that one of your guests is vegetarian. That’s not very much like home, now is it?
- Spend Some Time After Dinner with Drinks and Conversations.
Next up, make sure to spend some time after with dinner with drinks and nice conversation. Nothing’s worse than cutting the night short after dinner by just having everyone go to bed. Feel free to prolong the night for a bit by having their favorite drinks prepared. This is important to keep in mind for when you are shopping for these nights – keep alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks at the ready for times like these or when your guests are thirsty!
- Show Them Where Everything Is.
This can either happen before dinner or after dinner, but it’s super important that you take the time to show your guests where everything is. Nothing’s worse than your guests having to search around your house in the middle of the night for the bathroom. You can easily do a quick tour around the house and give them the major pointers. For example, you should definitely make sure to show them the bathrooms and where they can get drinks when they are thirsty. This is crucial if you want to have them feel at home during their stay!
- Have Extra Blankets and Pillows Available.
One of the most important things you need to think about whenever you are trying to make your guests feel at home is ensuring that you have plenty of extra blankets and pillows available for them to take advantage of. You don’t want your guests shivering through the night because they don’t have enough warmth, now do you? Of course, not!
You can easily set up extra blankets and pillows in the closet of the guest room and show this to them on the tour. Whenever they feel cold, they can just grab these blankets and pillows to use on the bed. Making your guests feel at home is all about making things as easy and accessible as possible!
- Make Sure Refreshments Are Available.
This is super crucial to think about when you’re first shopping for these couple of nights. You want to ensure there are plenty of refreshments available for your guests! It’s no good for your guests to have to rummage through your kitchen cabinets in the middle of the night when they get a little hungry. Even worse, you don’t want them to have to suffer through the night if they’re hungry!
Make sure this doesn’t happen by having plenty of healthy and light snacks available on the kitchen counter in a little basket. You can also have coffee packets available if they’re needing a little caffeine. And as mentioned earlier, make sure your fridge is stocked with plenty of drinks for them to partake in. And of course, show them all of this on the tour!
- Give Them the Wi-Fi Password!
A lot of the times, we give our guests the Wi-Fi password whenever they first get into the house, so they can put this into their smartphones. However, if it’s not written down somewhere, what are they going to do at night when they’re using their laptop or tablet? Of course, they don’t want to wake you up in the middle of the night to ask for the password, but this is no way to treat a guest!
Make sure that the Wi-Fi password is written down in their room on a piece of paper that’s easy to see.
- Wake Up Earlier Than Them in The Morning.
One last tip that we’re going to mention is that you should try to wake up earlier than them in the morning. We all know the feeling of waking up earlier than our hosts when we are the guest and not quite knowing what to do with ourselves. It’s so much better to wake up to a little noise in the kitchen and walking out to breakfast being made. This is really going to help your guests feel at home!
All of these tips are going to help your guests really feel at home when they’re staying a couple of nights. Try them out and see if they work for your guests!
