BRAZIL – An 8 year old Brazilian kid passed an entrance exam to be able to study law in a university. But according to the university, he needed to finish primary school first.
Joao Victor Portelinha de Oleveira passed the law school of Paulista University after completing all exams and writing test last week according to Correio Braziliense, a newspaper in Brazil.
But according to the university, Oleveira cannot study in their school because he is not qualified and haven’t finished secondary school (high school).
Meanwhile Oleveira’s father warned that he will bring this matter to the court.
The boy has decided to study law. “I want to study law at the university. It’s decided,” says Oleveira.
According to the Oleveira’s mother, his son is not a genius but he was brought up in an ‘intellectually stimulating environment’ in their home. His child is just a normal boy. He participated in his parents’ discussions and took interest in current affairs. He interacted a lot with adults.
The association of lawyers in Brazil meanwhile complained that the boy Oleveira is very young and should not be allowed to take entrance exam in the first place.
The education ministry group also appealed to make sure that no primary schoolers will be again given the chance to take the said entrance exam.
