613 staff of NCHD sacked at Chitral.
CHITRAL: As well as 613 employees of National Commission for Human Development (NCHD) were issued notice of termination of their services. As a result 513 literacy centers were also closed due to no releasing of fund by the federal government. According to detail the federal government not released fund for NCHD and more than 80,000 employees were issued notice that their service will be terminated after one month. As a result some 613 staff was terminated at Chitral as well as thousands of families were affected badly. Besides it some 513 Literacy centers were also closed where NCHD staff imparting education to adult women of local communities who could not get education at their childhood. NCHD had launched its support Unit at Chitral in the year 2004 who graduated 11134 women in these centers under adult education program.
Besides it NCHD had enrolled a group of 4400 volunteers who actively participated in different volunteer works like free medical camp, rescue activities, blood donation etc. They had opened two volunteer desks at District Headquarters hospital Chitral where more than 200 patients were provided free medicines and they collected 100 bags of blood donation. Enrollment in educational institutions has been enhanced from 60% to 95 %. NCHD also had launched ORS campaign who trained 53160 mothers regarding how to use and prepare ORS in case of diarrhea and other communicable diseases in emergency. Some 4 free medical camp were also arranged by NCHD where 2000 patients were examined free of cost and they were also given free medicines worth thousands of rupees. They had collected donations from local philanthropists and distributed free medicines to poor and needy people or rupees 300500.
In September 2000 at the United Nations Millennium Summit leaders of world level agreed to set a time bound and measurable goals and targets for combating poverty, hunger, disease, illiteracy, environmental degradation and discrimination against women, placed at the heart of the global agenda they are now called the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) the 8 MDG were as to eradicate extreme poverty and hunger from the world, to achieve universal primary education target, (to assure 100% literacy ratio) , gender equality and empowerment of women folk, reduce child mortality ratio, improve maternal health to combat HIV/AIDS Malaria, and other diseases to ensure environmental sustainability and to promote a global partnership for development. To achieve these targets the federal government launched NCHD and Chitral was one of the 117 district of the country where NCHD was working as Human Development Support Unit.
Recently the Federal government not released funds to run this commission as a result not only thousands of employees were jobless but the candles of knowledge were also put off by closing literacy centers in the country. And furthermore million of families were adverse affected after sacking of these employees. Employees of NCHD also protested on Monday and announced to continue their protest agitation until fulfillment of their genuine demand to release fund for NCHD. Social and political circle of Chitral have appeal to President and Prime Minister of Pakistan for releasing fund of NCHD to achieve targets of MDG and to increase literacy ratio in the country.
