PESHAWAR: Police and security forces killed 9 militants in an operation today in Peshawar, the capital of North West Frontier Province of Pakistan.
The "armed clash occured at the Bazid Khail area in the jurisdiction of Badhbair police station," according to Senior Suprentendent of Police Peshawar Ghafoor Afridi. He said police started search operation in the area after recieving information about the presence of millitants in the area. A crossfire took place between police and militants when the militants did not stop their vehicle at a checkpoint, local residents said. They said the millitants belonged to the banned militant organization Lashkar Islam of Khyber Agency and have come to attack the house of a local elder namely Faheem-ur-Rehman, leading a Qaumi Lashkar, an armed group of people.
The local people also took participation and help police in the operation. The bloody clash claimed 9 militants while one police and two frontier constabelary officials injured. Dead bodies were shifted to Peshawar Police Lind and the injured were shifted to Lady Rading Hospital. "6 rocket launchers, 6 rockets, 6 hand grenades, 9 kilashinkov and other automatic weapons recovered from militants", according to police. Inspector General of Police NWFP Malik Naveed appreciated locals for fighting against militants.
