WASHINGTON— As Americans everywhere observe the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and in Shanksville, PA, the U.S. Government Printing Office (GPO) has made available for the first-time the official edition of the 9/11 Commission Report in an eBook format. The report details the circumstances surrounding the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, including preparedness for and the immediate response to the attacks, and provides recommendations designed to guard against future attacks. The book is available in print format at GPO’s retail and online bookstore. The entire report is also accessible through GPO’s Federal Digital System (FDsys), a one-stop site to authentic, published Government information.
“GPO is using the latest technology in its role as the digital information provider for the Federal Government to make the official edition of the 9/11 Commission Report an eBook,” said Public Printer Bill Boarman. “By making this historic report available in a new format, GPO is providing the public with greater access to the content of the report and the details of one of most tragic days in our Nation’s history.”
With 2,200 employees, GPO is the Federal Government’s primary resource for producing, procuring, cataloging, indexing, authenticating, disseminating, and preserving the official information products of the U.S. Government in digital and print formats. GPO is responsible for the production and distribution of information products and services for all three branches of the Federal Government, including U.S. passports for the Department of State as well as the official publications of Congress, the White House, and other Federal agencies. In addition to publication sales, GPO provides for permanent public access to Federal Government information at no charge through GPO’s Federal Digital System (www.fdsys.gov) and through partnerships with approximately 1,220 libraries nationwide participating in the Federal Depository Library Program.
