94% pending cases of passport verification cleared by Omar Government: Tanvir

Jammu, January 11, (Scoop News)-The Political Secretary to Chief Minister, Tanvir Sadiq today while refuting the false claims that 75000 families have been blacklisted said that 94% of the pending cases of previous years and current have been cleared by the Omar led government
“An impression has been created that there has been blacklisting of 75 thousand families who have been indexed in security list, thereby blocking their opportunities for Government jobs, growth and travel plans or passport facilities, these allegations are patently untrue” Tanvir Sadiq, Political Secretary to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said in a statement adding “In the past three years, about three lac passport applications have been processed or disposed off and in the past 5 months alone, more than 5,000 adverse cases have been reviewed and cleared”
“94 % which includes the whole back log received has been disposed off” said Tanvir adding “The policy guidelines for passport verifications announced by the Government in 2011 has been an important CBM that facilitated the travel of a number of citizens for their jobs and Hajj pilgrimage, at large” he added
Highlighting the announcement of Amnesty Scheme in 2011 by the government for all those misguided youth involved in stone pelting, Omar Abdullah’s political secretary said “Apart from withdrawing the cases against them, verifications for them for pursuing their careers, job opportunities in Government and other public enterprises are also being facilitated”
“The Omar led government has also taken a similar lenient view after the SASB land row agitation, facilitating the youth of both the provinces of the State” said Tanvir
Stating that the State Government, has a robust and transparent mechanism of verifications for all its citizens for getting passports, jobs, contracts, loan facilities, setting up of NGOs, opening of press or media outlets the political secretary said “Large number of persons have availed these facilities and the government has in fact diluted and streamlined some of the stringent provisions that were existing in the earlier years”
“The increasing numbers of disposal of Passport verifications, including the clearance of the adverse cases of earlier years, which are being reviewed and resolved on a regular basis, are testament to the sensitivity of the government to such cases. This has certainly been a great relief for the general public” the political secretary to Omar Abdullah said.
“Procedures and policies have been streamlined and issuance of passports to people which are citizens rights have been one of the highlights of this government” said Tanvir “More than 88 thousand cases last year including review of 8 thousand adverse ones of earlier years have been cleared” he added
“A dedicated helpline at the CID headquarters is helping any applicant to get information apart from regular meet with general public is being processed every Thursday at the CID headquarters in both Srinagar and Jammu” said Tanvir
Emphasizing that a number of youth are taking the benefits of the initiatives of the Government through skill development schemes like Himayat and Udaan, Tanvir said “These young men and women have made the State proud with their contributions all over the country in the premier corporate establishments”
Stressing that only in cases where the involvement of the individual is directly established in anti-national or criminal or terrorist activities the verifications get reported adverse the political secretary said that like any government the security of the state is of paramount importance this objective cannot and will not be compromised.
