9400 border Migrants continue in 34 Relief camps at Hiranagar

Kathua, October 12, (Scoop News)- More than 9400 border migrants comprising 2100 families continue to stay in relief camps set up by District Administration at 34 locations in Hiranagar. Previously the district administration had decided to shift the migrants belonging to villages beyond 3km distance from international border back to their villages but with reports of fresh ceasefire violations in R S Pura last night the families have been asked to continue in camps till the final resolution of matter.
Deputy Commissioner Kathua Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary accompanied by SSP Mohan Lal and SDM Hiranagar visited various relief camps and held meeting with migrants and camp commanders and camp officers. It was conveyed that return to homes is not advised at the moment and administration will
continue to extend all assistance and provide necessary facilities at camps.
The DC also inspected the civic amenities and services being made available to women, children and elderly. He also inspected the
classes being organised for children of migrated families and interacted with them.
District Police has also deputed a number of teams to villages to ensure that there are no cases of thefts and property of migrants remains safe. Lumberdars, chowkidars, Sarpanchs and panchs have
also been associated with overall safety of property in villages and communication plan established.
Later, a review meeting was held with district officers of all essential services, camp officers and camp commanders. The DC reviewed the availability of supplies and amenities in stock and at camps; he also approved procurement of fresh articles as per the demands raised during visits to various camps.
He appreciated the dedicated efforts of all officers for engaging every section of migrants by organizing festivities of Karvachauth for women, birthdays of young boys and girls, sports and education events for children. Chief Medical Officer, District Sheep Husbandry officer and Assistant Director CAPD presented resume of latest activities under health check up, livestock management and ration supply respectively.
