On Tuesday the NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) expressed concern after Pakistan signed a pact with Islamists to introduce Islamic law in the northwestern Swat valley in a bid to take the steam out of a Taliban uprising there. NATO heads an international force battling Afghanistan’s Taliban militants.
James Appathuraitold the NATO spokesperson said, "We would all be concerned by a situation in which extremists would have safe haven," he added in a news briefing "It is certainly reason for concern."
