The documents from the National Police General Headquarters (NPGH) in Odessa Oblast testify to corrupt practices in Ukraine’s power structures aimed at helping Ihor Kolomoyskyi to forcibly takeover local business.
Forcible takeover of Odessa Film Studio, racketeering and urban land fraud, unauthorized construction on the beach, dumping fuel and withdrawing documents from BRSM gas filling stations – all that is possible because head of Odessa NPHG Dmitry Golovin and head of NPGH Investigation Department Serhiy Shaikhet, close associates of Kolomoyskyi, hinder any criminal investigations into the cases. The connivance of the General Prosecutor’s Office and the Court as well as patronage from mayor of Odessa Gennadiy Trukhanov and head of regional administration Maxim Stepanov help Kolomoyskyi achieve his goals.
After Saakashvili’s team was ousted from Odessa, oligarch Ihor Kolomoyskyi got every opportunity to create a separate criminal transit republic being formally part of Ukraine.
It is worthy of note that Ukraine’s authorities managed to gradually get rid of almost all foreign experts recommended by the EU and the USA to return the henchmen of oligarchs on key posts, which runs counter to the pronounced anticorruption reform needed for the EU association.
