Today was a big one for NYC startups:
- Fashism raised a $1M round, led by Ashton Kutcher and Ron Conway.
- Tumblr raised a $25-30M at a staggering $135M valuation.
- SkillShare launched at the Feast. Donate to their Kickstarter project here.
Congrats to all three fantastic and hardworking founders: Brooke Moreland, David Karp, and Mike Karnjaprakorn.
As industry leaders like Fred Wilson caution us about "troubling" trends and warn of bubbles, the news is likely to raise some alarms. But Tumblr’s skyrocketing traffic has grown 1,540% in recent months, with no sign of slowing. And Fashism’s retail-ready platform makes $1M a very reasonable first round.
Strangely silent on all this is tech bible TechCrunch. Perhaps they need to expand Erick Schonfeld’s East Coast staff?
