The successful September meeting between Hawaii Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard and Prime Minister Narendra Modi ushers in a new era of more friendly and intimate relations between the U.S. and India. Both leaders are famous for their deep commitment to service and courageous dedication to progressive solutions. Both Modi and Gabbard expressed heartfelt enthusiasm at the prospect of a closer friendship between the two countries and talked about ways they could work together cooperatively.
Tulsi Gabbard’s attraction to selfless service began at a very young age. Being raised with a strong spiritual foundation grounded in the timeless principles of the Bhagavad Gita, Tulsi began her career in community service when she was just a teenager. At the age of 19, she co-founded Healthy Hawaii Coalition, a grassroots non-profit organization whose mission is to protect the environment and improve individual and community health. At the age of 21, Tulsi became the youngest member of the Hawaii State Legislature. A year later, she joined the National Guard and voluntarily deployed overseas to serve her country in two tours of combat duty in the Middle East. She is currently serving her second term as Hawaii’s Second District Congressional Representative and has already become famous for her tireless work ethic and commendable commitment to putting aside personal agendas and partisanship to work together for the common good of all.
Tulsi has openly expressed her gratitude for the ancient wisdom of the Bhagavad Gita and how it has inspired her to look beyond external differences to find common foundations for humanity to come together and work together toward peaceful relations – relations based upon compassion and mutual respect. The Bhagavad Gita is an ancient spiritual text that is revered worldwide by religious leaders of many different faiths and is considered the crown jewel of spiritual guides by bona fide spiritual teacher and saintly people of many different nationalities. In Bhagavad Gita, Lord Krishna acting as the spiritual master & guru of arjuna instructs him on how to find purpose, meaning, and happiness through selfless service based on spiritual love and for the benefit of all humanity. Tulsi is a shining example of a life dedicated to selfless service in the spirit of love and compassion for all beings.

Modi was similarly inspired to service through the exemplary life of Mahatma Gandhi. Gandhi was an extraordinary leader who turned the tide of British rule in India through uniting the Indian people in non-violent action and civil disobedience. Gandhi was a staunch advocate for relieving poverty, building religious and ethnic harmony, women’s rights, and abolishing Untouchability. Gandhi was such a profound and beloved leader that he was able to succeed in gaining national independence for the Indian people and is widely regarded in India as the father of the nation. Modi’s own service to the people of India is clearly influenced by the work of Gandhi and uses principles employed by Gandhi to find intelligent solutions to the complex problems faced by a country with the second largest population in the world.
Prime Minister Modi and Representative Tulsi Gabbard talked amicably about their common concerns over the issue of terrorism and how the two countries could work together to protect the citizens. They also discussed defense related matters and ways that the U.S. and India could work together toward more peaceful and friendly relations, better foreign policies, and other opportunities to move both countries forward into a brighter future.
