So I go into see the doctor about some side effects I’m experiencing from some of the medications he put me on and was flabbergasted to find out that every prescription drug on the market today has side effects – some potentially life threatening. Call me naive or whatever but I had no idea it was so bad.
The doctor explained that according to the New England Journal of Medicine roughly 250,000 people die every year due to side effects from prescription drug medications (see article: Prescription drugs now kill more people than illegal drugs do http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2011/10/26/prescription-drugs-number-one-cause-preventable-death-in-us.aspx).
The doctor (speaking on the condition that I not reveal his name) went on to say that the pharmaceutical industry know that the drugs they develop have side effects and represent what he calls “a dirty little secret within the industry that they don’t really want the public to know about…”
He went on to say that “his friends” within the pharmaceutical industry know that the drugs people are taking in many cases are actually causing and contributing to the increase in disease and illness. Things such as cancer, heart disease, diabetes and dozens of other ailments and diseases too numerous to list…He said they really don’t do anything about this because it is (in his words) “not profitable for them to do so.”
He pointed out that “they are not in the business of curing diseases. If that was the case they would go out of business and medicine today, particularly when dealing with prescription drugs are big money…” The doctor went on to say that the pharmaceutical companies actually give out cash incentives to doctors (such as himself) about the drugs they make and market to people to otherwise ensure the doctors are (in his words) “properly incentivized to prescribe them to patients.”
HOW THE SCAM WORKS
What the doctor said next was very shocking – he said that the drugs he prescribes “don’t actually cure disease – they are not designed for that – they only address certain symptoms” and that “over time these same prescription drugs can and do cause a second set of medical problems for patients who take them. In many case more serious than the first.”
He explained that the drug companies then produce a drug to solve those new medical problems caused by taking the fist prescription drug – so on and so forth…
When asked if he felt guilty for prescribing drugs and acting, in effect, as a drug pusher for the pharmaceutical companies – the doctor responded by becoming incensed and angry that I would even suggest such a thing. After all he is a medical professional.
Needless to say I tossed my prescription drug in the trash on the way out of his office on that day and plan to never go back.
I guess what makes this whole thing “insidious” in my opinion is the fact that virtually all drug research today is funded by the pharmaceutical industry. As such it seems to me that they have a vested interest in perpetuating this vicious cycle of prescribing drugs that harm people. I should also say that doctors are in on this scam and guilty of helping the drug companies achieve their objectives.
