A devastating fire broke out at Midnapore at midnight of 20th April.2009.The fire affected a slum area where poor people fall asleep. Hundreads of huts were demolished.Five fine-engines worked the whole night.The neighbours joined hands with fire-fighters and worked tirelessly to put out the fire. The blaze was brought under control only till the morning. At least ten persons were burnt alive. Many others were seriously injures.The estimated value of the total loss is likely to run to several lakhs of rupees. Forensic experts are probing into the cause of the fire and police enquiry has been ordered.Many people are took to the hospital but it was too late and the doctors declared them dead.
