According to the 2006 census, out of Canada’s population of slightly over thirty-one million, about six million are born in a foreign country. This is the highest ratio of immigrants coming into the country since the early 1990s. Between 2001-2006, the immigrant population quadrupled as fast as the Canadian born population.
Nearly most of the newcomers to Canada either came from Asia or the Middle East. It’s a great way of immigrant-led population growth for the country. Now, the majority of immigrants coming into different countries are non-European.
The census also shows that immigration has caused great ethnic and cultural changes to the country. In Canada, Chinese is now the third most commonly used language. Afterwards, it’s followed by Italian, German, Punjabi, Spanish, Arabic, Tagalog, and Portuguese.
Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver gets most of the new immigrants to the country.
