Country Music Legend Loretta Lynn fought a fire that broke out in her home on February 25, 2014 and burned her fingertips. The Nashville reported the fire started around 9:30 a.m. in an area of a sunroom in the home. Everyone managed to get out to safety with Lynn suffering minor burns, according to Officials.
Local news sources reported the fire was of a “small” nature starting from a candle’s flame touching a chair in the room. The sounds of crackling got the attention of Lynn as she was watching television and she picked up a pillow and beat out the flames.
The flames did not damage the house Lynn had raised her family in at Hurricane Mills property, it was contained to Lynn’s actual living quarters. The property at Hurricane Mills has various attractions located throughout the property that includes a museum, western store and Motocross track. It’s a popular tourist attraction and having many visitors during the year.
Lynn has had two fires in a year at the Hurricane Mills property. In February of last year, a concession stand burned when a fire broke out in the cook shack; and it caused damage to a storage building as well as an eating area near the Motocross track. A month later, storms came through and broke windows and fell trees on the property. Lynn made a statement, “It was like resembling a war zone.”
I had the pleasure of visiting the Hurricane Mills property; it offers a lot of interesting events involving the life of Lynn. I enjoyed every one of the attractions, especially the simulated coal mine we took a trip through. I must admit I cried the entire time I was there because it brought back many memories of my life being raised as a coal miner’s daughter in the hills of West Virginia.
The beautiful old replication of Butcher Holler the home Lynn was raised in as a child is especially interesting along with a walk through the antebellum Hurricane Mills home where she raised her children. I found the trip to be interesting and enjoyable.
Lynn is “still” touring and she will resume her touring on Friday, February 28, 2014 in Greenville, Texas.
Lynn was presented the Presidential Medal of Freedom in November 2013 during a White House ceremony.
