A Gift To My Children Makes Gift To Readers

Investor and adventurer Jim Rogers has written a new book, A Gift To My Children: A Father’s Lessons For Life and Living see http://jimrogers-investments.blogspot.com/2009/03/new-book-gift-to-my-children-fathers.html.  Addressed to his two young daughters, it contains investment and lifestyle advice suitable for many.  (Full disclosure: I met Jim Rogers for the first time in 1981, and have been in touch with him continuously since the early Nineties).

Jim Rogers co-founded the Quantum Fund with George Soros and retired at the age of 37.  He has written Investment Biker and Adventure Capitalist.   He invests on Wall Street and around the world for his own account now, while acting as a media commentator on investments.

His advice is to study before you invest, learn languages and history.  Amusingly, he tells his daughters "Boys will need you more than you’ll need them!" .

Rogers shares more autobiographical information about himself and his family than I knew before.  When he was a teenager in the Fifties, he noticed the racial divide in the rural Alabama where he was.   Demopolis means city of the people, but he realized that it wasn’t the city of all the people.  Working in his uncle’s store, he discovered that all the black people knew him and his family by name (his father managed the local chemical plant) but he did not know them.  He was astounded to find a Japanese war bride living in the black section of town.

This slim volume has much to offer in Rogers’ folksy manner well-known to many American television viewers.  -30-
