Dear Mr Obama,
Now Mr. Barrack Obama shall be the President of the USA. Unbelievable indeed!
Like millions of people from different parts of the Globe, I am sending you this greetings on your assuming the office of President of United States of America, which I did not believe would happen in this century. Anyhow that has happened. I must say that the people of the USA have washed their centuries old sins, they committed against American-Indians and Mexicans, for the time being, which, perhaps, all the waters of the Arabian Seas would not have washed. There is no occasion in the 21st century to relook into the pre-1776 history of the USA.
I travelled around the world for six years (1967 to 1973) on motorcycle on Peace Mission. Passed through the USA on an old (135 US$ worth), Chevrolet as my motorcycle got broken in Argentina in 1972 while I was trying to cross a stream to reach Che Guevara’s village. Wherever I went, I found that the ‘people are people everywhere’, may it be in the Congo or the USA? I believe that the diplomatic representatives or the respective Governments do not, necessarily, represent the people. I had occasions to share my views and thoughts with many leaders of the world; PLO leader Yasir Arafat, Iraq President Saddam Hussein, Yugoslavian President, Slobodan Milesovic and many others during my travels. Book on my travels, "Peace Mission, Around the World on Motorcycle" was recently presented by Mr. Arjun Singh, Union Minister for Human Resource Department, Government of India. Sending a copy through courier to Your Excellency.
Now you, a youthful, brilliant, enthusiastic and farsighted President of a most powerful country which holds three-fourths of world’s wealth, weapons, nuclear power and political control in this unipolar system, are vested with unique responsibility to exercise your power for the good of mankind and to ensure that peace does not become a casualty in the rest of the world as it happened under governance of your predecessors.
I am sure you must be aware of Iraqi situation as it existed before the US aggression, during the aggression and after the aggression. Can you justify all that was done in Iraq by Bush administration? Can you justify hanging of President Saddam Hussein through a ‘mock’ trial? It was not only a mistake but a blunder committed by President Bush vis-à-vis Iraq. I had, in my letter, to President Bush sounded him about the consequences that could follow the execution of Saddam Hussein. The letter was duly acknowledged.
I am annexing a copy of that letter to Your Excellency for your kind information. US aggression on Iraq ravaged a great civilisation and demolished the credibility and integrity of the UN. There is no justification for the US forces to stay in Iraq.
A journalist who demonstrated huge resentment on President Bush in Iraq recently smoked the sentiments of hundreds of millions of the people of the world. You have to address the genuine grievances of those people of the world with caution and care. Lest you forget!
The US has to rework its policy in the Middle East and vis-à-vis the Arab World. US policy on Cuba needs a realistic approach. Peoples interest in Asia and Africa cannot be ignored. ‘The wretched of the Earth’ in Africa and Asia are also human beings and deserve to be treated as such. Can the humanity afford to sacrifice millions of human beings in Africa again? Black is beautiful. What happened to that beauty? The amount of money the US has been spending on ‘armaments and espionage’ need to be spent for the welfare of those forgotten tribes. UN resolutions and directives have to be honoured by Israel in absolute term. Palestine shall have to be recognised as a Independent Sovereign State. ‘Wisdom lies in daring’. You have both. The US of Obama cannot afford to follow double standards in the same region. These are our expectations.
Your half baked statement on Jammu and Kashmir did not match your perception and vision. Jammu and Kashmir is the soul of India’s secular and democratic ethos. The UN resolutions directed Pakistan to withdraw her occupation in 1948 from Kashmir. Who doubts the union of Kashmir with India has to justify annexation of 13 Southern States of the USA which were broken from Mexico to form the part of USA. If Kashmir’s relationship which date back to thousands of years with the Union of India is doubted then the recent constitutional tie up between Northern Ireland, Scotland and Britain has to be revalued. Handful of terrorists cannot hijack peace in Asia in the name of freedom for the terrorists. J&K is the problem created by our past colonial master, the Great Britain, in 1947. The real problem in Kashmir is the future of one-third of Kashmir with nearly four million people of what they call as ‘Azad Kashmir’ and Gilgit-Baltistan region. Pakistan should hold referendum in thos e occupied areas and let the people there decide whether they intend to stay in Pakistan. That is the only issue of ‘Kashmir’. A fresh study of the cause of Partition of India in 1947, division of the Congo, Cameroon, Korea, Palestine and recently that of Yugoslavia must be included in curriculum of the world’s statemen.
Sudden death of President Milesovic in a black prison cell of UN Criminal Court in the Hague while he was put on illegal trial by the US cannot be written off the pages of the history. I had met him with Mr. Ramsey Clark in the ‘prison-hole’, a month before he reportedly died. He was denied medical and legal aid. I and Mr. Ramsey Clark were not allowed to represent him in the court. He was not allowed to engage a lawyer of his choice. What happened to the principles of natural justice and rule of law? Deserve explanation?
Palestine was divided by the Security Council of the UN through illegal Resolution No 181 in 1947 establishing two states, Israel and Palestine. This is grave injustice with the people of Palestine, which gave birth to the Prophets, Ibraham to Jesus that it has not been accorded recognition as ‘a state’ till date by the USA. President Obama has to address this issue of the State of Palestine where Jesus faced crucifixion for the cause of truth, 2000 years back. Yasir Arafat, Noble Peace laureate, died unheard in Ramallah’s broken hut. The world stood helpless.
The agenda of Gandhi and Martin Luther King for complete Nuclear disarmament in the world has to be the agenda of President Barrack Obama for the survival of the World. Terrorism has become trade. That needs to be destroyed through global movement for universal peace and brotherhood.
Mr. President you have another problem of racial bias and drugs within USA. Laws and deterrence are not the solutions alone. There is a need for a revolution in human thought for good of man. Art of loving and living with other human beings irrespective of their color, creed, nationalities or race has to be developed. I suggest you kindly go through the message of God as incorporated in the Eighteenth Chapter of Bhagwad Geeta. In this message you shall feel the message of Torat, Bible, Quran and Buddha on compassion, tolerance and human love and dignity. I am sending a Copy of Bhagwad Geeta in English. Every ruler in the world should share this thought of benevolence and piety if he intends to conquer a war against the evil forces. Drugs are more destructival than the nuclear weapons. Laws, guns, deterrence, jails have not succeeded to overcome this menace. If humanity could be rescued through an authority of law and power then ‘Buddha’ (Sidhartha) could have done it being an absolute monarch 2000 years ago. He was right in abdicating his throne to reach the people by identifying himself with them to fight the evils in the society. He abdicated power to reach the hearts of the people.
Mr. Obama is a young man. He is heard by everyone in the world. Your voice shall wield more power than the ‘nuclear arms’ of the USA. Let us fight evil forces with compassion and truth taking welfare of entire human race in our agenda. I wish a great success as the 44th President of the USA. Looking forward to see you some day some where. Asta Luego!
With warm regards and best wishes,
Yours sincerely,
Bhim Singh
