Recently, Ayman Al-Zawahri, the number two man and possibly the “true” leader of Al-Qaeda may have shot himself in the foot by a recent comment. So forth, it has brought backlash from the female bloc of Islamic extremists. This is going to be quite an interesting dispute within the radical Islamic movement.
Perhaps, it could deal some sizeable damage to Al-Qaeda’s operations and influence. One could predict that there will possibly be in-fighting within the movement. The catalyst was a comment made by Al-Zawahri back in April. He said that the role of women is to stay at home and care for the children of Al-Qaeda’s fighters. Al-Zawahri simply said that women do not belong on the frontlines of Al-Qaeda.
That brought forth anger from the female jihadists.
On another interesting note, this has put Al-Qaeda at odds with the radical Islamic group in Palestine known as Hamas. Hamas has no problems with adding women to its ranks. In short, this could be a potentially devastating mistake on Al-Zawahri’s part.
So far, the Taliban has not weighed in on that aspect yet. However, the Taliban in Pakistan says they have not met Al-Qaeda’s leader, Osama Bin Laden yet. But, the Taliban has its own share of problems in Afghanistan.
The Taliban has come across a very formidable energy: the wheat market. That’s right; the wheat market could be the catalyst that could strike a crushing blow to the Taliban. Most of Afghanistan is starting to become opium-free.
There are still some parts where the poppy plants still exist. One such area is the Helmand province which is dominated by the Taliban. However, poppy growth and opium production has decreased. Instead of poppy plants, there is the wheat crop.
One could assume that the Taliban will try to take control. However, it is expected that the Taliban lacks the infrastructure to take over Afghanistan’s wheat market. Unlike opium, the wheat farmers would not have to depend on the Taliban for money. Plus, the farmers can eat their own wheat crops. You can’t eat opium. Well you can try… But, that wouldn’t be very smart.
In short, one could say that the Taliban is royally screwed on this one. Like I said in my last article: EAT YOUR WHEATIES!
In regards to the radical Islamist movement, didn’t see that one coming.
