Poetry From The Heart
May each of you have a blessed New Year 2014 and may all your goals and dreams become realities!
I saw a Shepherd in the fields tending his sheep,
no time to wander off, no time to rest and sleep.
He tends his flock to keep them from going astray,
ever mindful as wickedness draws them far away.
He takes his staff and plods through the fields,
searches for those who have lost their will.
They’re innocent and unripe to a world of sin,
he must continue to hunt to bring them back in.
No one lends a hand, no one observes,
he must find the lost and teach them God’s word.
They’re sheep who’ve gone astray,
meandering off course…losing their way.
Stars shine, emitting light upon the earth,
allowing him to pursue and scan its girth.
Tired and somnolent from his tiring trip…
he won’t give up…must get the lost in his grip.
Others in the herd…try to abandon his care,
yearns to taste the lush, lure them to enjoy the dare.
The flock grows edgy in the darkness of the night,
the Shepherd looks to God to ease his fright.
He asks God to lend him a helping hand,
silent the sheep, drive the lost back into the band.
The sky lit up like the mornings sun…
missing sheep came hurriedly in a run.
The lost sheep found their way to their Master,
content to be in the hands of their caretaker.
A life they thought would be great on the outside,
brought them transgressions and a life without pride.
