A Trip To An Old Country Church

Poetry From The Heart

I couldn’t believe the stunning sight…

There on the hill stands an old country church,
pine trees hover around like soldiers on alert.
Its window panes glisten mirroring the sky,
three crosses stand close by on a hillside.

Dark clouds try to obstruct the striking view,
buttercups and daisies emit a beautiful hue.
A ray of sunshine peeks through the clouds,
aglow on the crosses standing tall and proud.

I cannot believe the stunning sight,
the crosses lit up like a dazzling light.
I rub my eyes, watch in disbelief,
my heart and soul finds it hard to believe.

I walk up the spiraling hill toward the church,
find an ailing lamb trying to give birth.
In distress and unable to pull herself up,
looks at me…like I’m having bad luck.

I came to her aid and pat her wooly head,
if I don’t do something, they’ll both be dead.
I look at the crosses lit up like a beautiful light,
must make a decision…it better be right.

I give the baby lamb a gentle tug,
Mother lamb hops up like to give it a hug.
Standing there making sure everything is okay,
the baby bucks like it wants to jump and play.

I look back at the hill where the crosses stand,
feel in my heart this was a good plan.
I think about Jesus being called “The Lamb,”
fall to my knees thanking the Great I Am.
