Actor turned director Amir Khan won the 11 th Gollapudi Srinivas National Award for his directorial venture Taare Zameen Par.
The actor Kamala Hasan announced the award at a media conference in Chennai. The film was chosen from the 19 nominations, by the jury consisting of the noted film director Singeetham Srinivasa Rao,Kalyanaraman, former director of Federation of Film Society of India and the founder of the award Gollapudi Maruthi Rao.
According to Marutho Rao, this is the first time that a Hindi film wins the Gollapudi Srinivas National Award. The Actor Aamir Khan agreed to receive the award. The award carries a cash price of Rs 1.5 lakhs along with a momento. The award function is scheduled to take place on August 12 th, 2008.
According to actor Kamala Hasan who announced the award said that though Maruthi Rao had lost his son, he has got 11 sons by instituting this award.
The announcement of the award is certainly very significant since it has broken the north-south barrier prevailing in the Indian cine field and the acknowledgement of the real talent and achievement wherever it might be.It should be noted that the movie was a box-office hit and with a social message with regard to mentally retarded children.Aamir Khan must be complimented for what he has done unmindful of the consequences to the movie at the box office. But thank God, Aamir Khan’s debut directorial venture did not go waste and it clicked.
