Last summer, Aaron Mohanlal was convicted of 13 counts of child abuse, molestation and lewd battery, but the Florida man has yet to serve a day of his 43 year prison sentence.
Aaron Mohanlal, a former school teacher, forced a 13 year-old boy to have sex with him for two years. After his sentencing in a Florida circuit court, he was granted a bond that allows him to remain free while waiting for an appeal. Aaron Mohanlal will lead a relatively normal life, with a GPS bracelet as his only police monitoring, while his case is tried on appeal which could take years. Needless to say, his victim’s family and other community members are outraged.
"I want to move on with my life. I’m trying to graduate high school and forget about this," the victim said. "I try not to think about it, but it’s hard because all I can think about is what if he’s out there around other kids?" There is no clause in Aaron Mohanlal’s bond that says he has to stay away from children although he does need to stay away from the boy, now 18, who he is convicted of raping.
Aaron Mohanlal was granted this rare bond by the judge because he was a first time felon and was convicted of second-degree battery. Were he convicted of first-degree sexual battery, the bond would not be allowed. Until the end of his appeal case, Aaron Mohanlal, a convicted child molester, is more or less a free man.
