PESHAWAR: Akhtar Kohistani, the media advisor of
Ministery of Rural Rehabilitation and Development Social Production Department escaped from the lock up of the abductors in the far-away areas of the district Upper Dir, 150 miles away from Peshawar, capital of North West Frontier Province, near to Pak-Afghan border.
“An unknown frightened person, who was escaped from the captivity of kidnappers, gestured for a pick when he was driving in the Doog Dara, remote area of District Upper Dir, told by a local driver to this correspondent. The unknown person identified himself as the Akhtar Kohistani, the abducted Media Advisor of Afghan government, revealed by driver. According to the driver the abductors chased him and unfortunately catch Mr. kohistani again when we reached to the area of Drum Dala.
When this correspondent contacted the District Police Officer (DPO), Eejaz Khan, he denied the presence of Akhtar Kohistani. He rather termed it as rumor. He said that a grand jirga held in Miana Doog area for maintaining peace and stability in the area. He said that we have also some unconfirmed information about the Akhtar Kohistani, but it will be pre-mature to say anything about his presence, because police has no solid evidences in this regard “.
A grand jirga of the elders and representatives of 25 village held in the Miana Doog area to decide the fate of the afghan refugees in the Doog Dara, miana Doog and other parts of DIR, told by a police officer of Shireen Gul police station.
“Kidnappers have demanded Rs. 20 million rupees for his safe release, told by Eejaz Khan,District Police Officer Upper Dir. He said that he has also contacted with Chitral police chief about Mr. Kohistani.
“Akhtar Kohistani has been abducted from the area of Daroosh, outskirts of the Chitral on November 03, 2008 from the house of hi father-in-law Shah Maither, elder brother of MNA price Mahaee Din, belong to royal family of Chitral, sources said.
