Ace filmmaker has a message for Raj

Maker of off-beat films on social issues like Bawandar, Provoked; a true story, Jagmohan Mundra has shifted from Los Angles to Mayanagari Mumbai. He decided to migrate because he is now into the production of out-and-out commercial films for the masses.
And since he is a native of Rajasthan and India, love for the country and other family things brought him back to his roots.
He was in town to participate in the award ceremony of the Jaipur International Film Festival (IIFF) 2009. Mundra spoke  on a variety of issues relating to twists and turns in his career and personal life as well. "Due to some family reasons and other professional reasons, I decided to shift my base to Mumbai and I am directing three films right now," Jagmohan replied to a question.
Asked why he always chooses to make films on controversial subjects like atrocities against women, he said, "Cinema is the mirror of the society. Whatever good or bad is happening in the society should be shown as eye opener to the people through films. The society may have shortcomings but it should be aware of that through cinema to improve."
"I don’t subscribe to the theory of some filmmakers who say films are to be watched after switching off the minds. I think every cinema has its responsibility," the director said.
"If I am showing a story of a rape victim, who is also a victim of domestic violence, I should portray everything including a character, who is cruel and harsh to the woman," the director said.
On foray into commercial films, Jagmohan said, "I made films on social issues and some people liked it. But there are many who watch films for entertainment. So, I thought of doing something for them also."
"I am doing three films titled as Chase, Naughty at 40 and Room Partner. All these films are of different genres," he said.
Mundra further said that since Rajasthan is a rich state in terms of heritage and archeological beauty the state government should facilitate the filmmakers. "I think the Rajasthan government should come up with some subsidy, facilities and other measures to lure filmmakers. This would also promote tourism in the state."
