The Kollam Revenue Divisional Officer has initiated action against the owners of the Parapallikonam paddy fields under the Kerala Land Utilisation Act.
Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan had directed the District Collector to take action against reclamation of the paddy fields at Pavithreshwaram near Kottarakara. District Collector A. Shajehan got the direction during the ‘Sutharya Keralam’ video conferencing programme held at the Collectorate conference hall on Monday.
The direction came in the wake of a complaint by twenty five members of the Kerala State Karshaka Thozhilali Union, at the programme.
The fields have been lying idle for years. Of late, the owners began reclaiming the paddy fields to grow rubber.
The Chief Minister wanted this diversion to be stopped and the whole area restored as paddy fields.
Following the Chief Minister’s direction, the Collector had ordered the village officer concerned to conduct an inquiry.
