A leading opposition political group – Committee for Joint Action yesterday staged a peacefull demonstration in Accra to protest against the rising cost of living in Ghana and the austerity measures the ruling government has adopted over the past eight years, making life difficult for the citizens.
The demonstration which lasted for more than three hours called on the citizenry to vote out the ruling New Patriotic Party during next year’s election. To the CJA, this is the only way the people can free themselves from the increasing hardship in the country.
The well attended demontration was address by leading members of the major opposition parties. But conspicuously missing was the former president Jerry John Rawlings and the Flag bearer of his National Democratic Congress (NDC), now in opposition, Professor John Evans Attah Mills who were expected by many to be there.
This is the first sign of rising political pressure in Ghana towards next year’s general election.
