Actress Mayim Bialik pens book on attachment parenting

Actress Mayim Bialik, known for playing neuroscientist Amy Fowler on the TV sitcom “Big Bang Theory” and the lead character in the 1990s sitcom “Blossom” has pennea book on attachment parenting. The actress, who is 38 and a mother of two, feels that modern society places more importance on earning money than raising kids. Attachment parenting advocates allowing children to self wean from breastfeeding. Bialik’s two kids self-weaned at the ages of two and four. In fact, she came under a lot of criticism for breastfeeding her three-year-old son in a New York Subway in 2012.

The book titled “Beyond the Sling”, was published on October 7, Tuesday in the UK. Bialik’s parenting tips have been received well by attachment parenting advocates, while others have criticized her promoting outmoded methods. Bialik, who holds a PhD in neuroscience from UCLA, disagrees with the common opinion that attachment parenting is for hippies. Have studied mammalian bonding and hormonal development, she feels that it is the natural and best way to raise a child.

The book is being promoted as “a real-life guide to raising confident, loving children the attachment parenting way”. Bialik feels “that society privileges making money above raising our kids”. She continues, “You can’t be in two places at once. It’s impossible to be at home and at work. I’m a feminist, but I made the difficult decision to stay at home when my children were little. I’m lucky that the father of my children was there to look after them when I did return to work.”

Bialik divorced from ex-husband Michael Stone in 2012, an co-parents her kids with him now, and they seem to have come to an amicable arrangement. But Bialik seems to have done well with her kids. She says of her children, “My children are compassionate because they have been shown compassion. What else could I want?”
