Adam Gilchrist, a gentleman cricketor and a true sportsman, aged 36, has announced his retirement from international cricket when he played the fourth and the final test at Adelaide Oval, played between India and Australia. It was a surprise announcement to everybody including his team mates and a former cricketor, Steve Waugh.
Adam Gilcrist in his post-match interview has said that he took the decision to retire in the course of the fourth test, that too when he missed a couple of catching chances behind the wicket during the match. When he missed those chances he felt that he was no longer aggressive and alert enough normally he would have pouched them even by closing his eyes.
Adam Gilchrist has been the only gentleman cricketor in the Australian team. The moment he felt that he was out in a match, he would not wait for the signal of the umpire and simply walk out towards the dressing room.
Adam Gilchrist’s achievements are aplenty. He holds the record for the highest number of catches behind the wicket. His century in the final match of the 2007 world cup was astonishing.
Adam Gilchrist has rated the present Indian team as highly competitive and has the wherewithals of competing with and defeating Australia.According to him the present Indian team is better than the English team which won the ‘Ashes’in the year 2005.
After his retirement Adam Gilchrist has proposed to spend more time with his family and also looking forward to play in India in the Indian Premiere League.Kudos to a gentlemen cricketor !
