Srinagar, January 18, (Scoop News)- The State Committee CPI (M) today expressed serious concern over the current power crisis in Jammu and Kashmir and asked the government to respond to the “grim situation”.
“The administration should wake up to the bleak scenario of power in Kashmir and must immediately respond to the grim situation by putting in place effective measures,” State Committee CPI (M) said in a statement issued here today.
“It is ironic that people in many parts of the Valley are served with bills even after their damaged transformers are lying unrepaired at workshops for months together.” The state committee stated that even after a huge increase in power tariff, the supply position has touched an all time low.
The party reiterates that every family, irrespective of whether it is living below or above the poverty line, should be given 35 kg of food grain every month at the rate of Rs.2 per kg and the huge food grain stores where the grains are wasting should be released for this purpose. The party demanded immediate increase in the allocation of ration to meet the needs of the bifurcated families after 2001 and streamlining the rationing system with the introduction of unified ration cards.
The party criticized the State Government for its failure to curb corruption in the State which is affecting all walks of life and making the common citizens its ultimate victims. The issue of ending endemic corruption needs to be addressed with sincerity and speed. The party calls for a broad based movement against corruption in the state and demands that an effective institutional framework to curb the menace be set in place.
Referring to the specter of unemployment which is haunting the youth of the state the party observed that the high levels of unemployment are alarming and a cause of serious concern. The callous and insensitive approach of the government towards the issue has put our youth in a state of despair, despite learning newer skills and equipping themselves to be eligible for gainful employment. There is also widespread under-employment where highly qualified persons are doing low end jobs and government seems to be in no mood to take measures to expand employment opportunities.
