As a designer, the computer will serve as one of your number one allies as it will be able to fuse technology and traditional art without having to compromise one another. If you design posters, then you will definitely want to use a design program such as the Adobe Photoshop 4. This particular software will be able to help you do things like the traditional way with a pencil and paper but at a much faster rate and with less waste.
With Adobe Photoshop, you will be able to draw and erase illustrations and images in Photoshop as much as you want. In fact, even in the last stages of the design, you will still be able to edit major parts of the design without beginning from scratch. All these things can be done without even using a single paper or pencil.
From traditional artists to modern commercial graphic designers, you will see that creating marketing materials with Photoshop is relatively easy. From brochures to large posters, you will see that Adobe Photoshop 4 will be able to help you from start to finish. The great thing about Photoshop 4 is that it will be able to help you get things done faster, which means that you will be able to have more time to deal with any minor errors in the design.
Basically, when you are designing a poster in Adobe Photoshop 4, you have to know that there are 4 basic steps to do so.
The first step is by sketching the design in Photoshop. A lot of designers say that the sketching process in Adobe Photoshop 4 is the same as sketching it the traditional way. The graphic palette of Adobe Photoshop almost copies that of the feeling of drawing on paper. Although drawing on Photoshop using a mouse and keyboard is not as fast as drawing on paper, you will see that there are quite a lot of advantages when you draw with Photoshop. One such effect is the halftones which you cannot do with pencils.
The second step is by preparing layers. After you are done with the sketching phase, you first need to convert the image to sepia tones before you work on colors. This will be easier for you as it will yield halftones, which are more subtle, thus, making it easier for you to view the image and at the same time retain its structure while you apply colors.
Now, after you turn the sketch to sepia tones, you then need to create two layers. Do this by going in to the layers palette. Here, you should set the background layer to multiply mode and insert it between two virgin layers. On the lower layer, you should put the layers with colors, which is beneath the sepia layer. Alsop, add details and finishing touches on the top layer above the sepia layer.
The third step is by working on the lower layer. You need to choose a dominant dark color, which the secondary effects can relate to and one that will not lose contrast to it. You do this in order to avoid getting lost in the details of the entire colors and graphics all over the work area.
The fourth step is to work on the top layer of the drawing. This is where you can work with the lines of the drawing. Here, you will adjust, refine, and correct the lines ad this is where you will also work with lighter colors in order to smoothen out the shapes of the drawing. After coloring your design, you will now need to soften or get rid of the lines that are too heavy on the top layer.
Layering is a basic technique that you need to master in Photoshop. Through this technique, you will be able to create great designs and also make it easier for you to edit your drawings.
