Afghan President Hamid Karzai has asked for more foreign soldiers to combat Talibans in Afghanistan, international media reports say.
Known as a leader trained and designed by the US, President Karzai expressed his concern, “Terrorist forces have significantly increased their attacks and brutality and enjoyed freedom in their sanctuaries.” He said that Afghanistan needed 10,000 foreign soldiers immediately to cope with the challenges set by the Talibans.
President Karzai on Wednesday told the United Nations “Civilian casualties can seriously undermine the legitimacy of fighting terrorism and the credibility of the Afghan people’s partnership with the international community,” Mr. Karzai said.
President Karzai was concerned that the killing of innocent Afghans by foreign troops endangers the credibility of the United States and its allies in the war against Taliban insurgents.
The peace and security situation in Afghanistan has got far aggravated since 2001 when the US and its Western allies, in response to the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the US, took the country to find Al Quaeda leader Bin Laden and control his Taliban followers.
