It was the ban on orkut that resulted in the creation of VKoot by a Keralite. Now Kerala has a social networking site operating on its soil. VKoot seems to be the next entry into the social networking world of India.
Vinu Mohan(26) from Thriprayar was a regular on Orkut until the site was banned in Dubai where he worked for Dubai Media City. The ban prompted him to start a new social networking system.
He set up Vkoot, which already has 17,000 members. Vkoot means Vinu’s Friends (Vinuvinte Koottukar). The site is operated from his house at Thriprayar in Thrissur district.
Vinu, a multi-media engineer, has been running Vgreets, an online greeting site, since 2004. The money he got from Vgreets was used for Vkoot.
The functioning of the site is co-ordinated by Shajahan and Shaji of Thiruvananthapuram is the main programmer. To attract members to the site and brief them on its merits, there are four promoters-Ridhily in Ireland, Preethy in the US, Nimisha in Bangalore and Meera in Kozhikode.
